5 Non Negotiables for Healthy Living Insights from a Very Human Yoga Teacher and Personal Trainer in Dubai

Hey there, beautiful souls! Are you ready to kickstart your journey to a healthier, happier you? Yes, or maybe you’ve already started, or maybe you feel a little lost.

I don’t know you, but I understand human nature: We want to feel good in our bodies, capable of handling the day, showing up at work, with family, with our partners, and, most importantly, for ourselves.

So if this resonates with you, I’ll share what worked for me, both now and at the beginning (shhh, don’t tell anyone, but I used to be not so zen, not so dedicated, not so confident) of my fitness journey, or better yet, discovery journey.

For this reason, I’m spilling the tea on the 5 Non-Negotiables for Healthy Living that can be your first achievable step towards a very natural wellness routine.

1. Morning Movement – Yoga, Mobility, Walks, Small Workouts

Do you wake up feeling more broken than when you went to bed, only to rush through your morning routine, down some coffee, and head out the door to sit for the next 8 hours? I bet you feel cranky and grumpy!

As humans, we’re not designed to sit all day; we’re meant to move, shake, dance, run, jump, and walk. Trust me, there’s no better way to kickstart your day than by moving. It’s advisable to establish a training routine, but nothing is as fundamental as morning movement.

Here’s a list of activities I’ve done in the past and continue to do:

  • 20 minutes of yoga: I followed a YouTube channel for years and now subscribe to an app with an amazing yoga teacher.
  • 15-20 minutes of jumping on a home trampoline with my favourite music.
  • 10-15 minutes of bodyweight workouts from YouTube.
  • Walking, either short or long; I generally do this on holiday when I don’t need to keep track of time.

Not only does movement awaken your body and invigorate your mind, but it also sets the tone for a day filled with intention and mindfulness. Carve out 15-20 minutes each morning to connect with yourself on the mat, and watch how it transforms your entire day.

2. Fuel Your Body with Nutrient-Rich Foods – Simple and Sustainable

You’ve heard it before, and I’ll say it again: you are what you eat!

Let’s keep it simple: here’s an idea of how a balanced meal should look and some pro tips to make it sustainable. Fill your plate following this order:

  • Protein source: â…“ of your plate
  • Fiber: â…“ of your plate
  • Fats: â…™ of your plate
  • Carbohydrates: â…™ of your plate

Pro Tip: If you’re busy like me and have zero time, do yourself a favour and save time, money, and worries by subscribing to a meal prep service. Embrace a healthy lifestyle by eating real, unprocessed food. You deserve to show love and respect to your body and health.

3. Hydration – The Ingredient You Were Missing

I used to say: drink at least â…” liters of water per day, thinking it was enough to hydrate yourself. I was wrong. We need electrolytes in the water to facilitate cellular absorption.

Electrolytes are salts that break into positive and negative charges, allowing nutrients and water to bind and be absorbed by the cells. The moment you start using them is the moment brain fog lifts, clarity increases, metabolism improves, and you perform better at work and during workouts.

If you don’t want to buy anything, start with a pinch of iodine salt and a squeeze of lemon.

Pro Tip: Keep a reusable water bottle by your side as a constant reminder to hydrate and be a little more eco-friendly while living in Dubai!

4. Prioritize Your Zzz’s – Beautiful and Younger for Longer

Why do we need and want beauty sleep? Getting enough quality shut-eye is essential for overall health; it aids in recovery, memory storage, knowledge retention, and detoxification of the entire system.

Ultimately, you’ll stay younger, stronger, and healthier for longer. Aim for 7-9 hours of restorative sleep each night.

My bedtime routine, as simple as it sounds, mostly involves washing my face. I need to feel fresh and clean. You might be wondering, do I use ENJO? Yes, because I cannot stand the dry feeling of my skin with other products. Cleansing with ENJO is so simple. Just add water & wipe.

If I don’t collapse, I read, then I use a night mask to avoid any light disturbing my sleep. However, let’s start by turning off screens, dimming the lights, and indulging in your favorite self-care activity.

5. Sit with Yourself for 5 Minutes at Least – Face Yourself

Easy to say, hard to do. I know, I’m there too. But, when I avoid it, I end up with so much pent up emotions that I end up exploding. Anxiety takes over, and unhealthy coping mechanisms kick in.

What to do? Just breathe, listen to the effect on your body, get familiar with it, listen to it. It’s constantly saying things, but we’re often scared of what it’s whispering. FYI: when it starts shouting, it’s too late.

Living a healthy lifestyle in Dubai isn’t complicated, but it requires a conscious choice to embrace wellbeing habits.

By incorporating these 5 Non-Negotiables for a Healthy Day into your routine, you’ll be well on your way to feeling your best, inside and out
