Understanding Safety in Multiple Dimensions
In Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, safety comes first. Safety is a fundamental concern and is as diverse as a rainbow, encompassing physical, emotional, and spiritual safety. Let’s start by exploring physical safety.
Ensuring Physical Safety in Childcare Environments
We tailor the child-friendly equipment in our nursery to the age of the children. Rails equipped on the stairs allow children to grasp them easily, and we cover high-risk corners with protective edges to prevent injuries.
We have designed the climbing wall with a dense cushioned area underneath, ensuring that children become expert fallers in a safe environment. Constant supervision ensures that while accidents do happen, they are minor and treated as learning opportunities.
Promoting Emotional Safety Through Psychology
When a child says: “I can’t,” it’s often because they feel unsafe and uncomfortable trying new things. Knowing that children learn more between zero and six than at any other time in their lives, it is impossible for them not to be clever.
We manage emotional safety by understanding how to communicate with children in ways that promote independence and respect for self and others. At Little Land Nursery, we strive not to over-praise, so children don’t feel pressured to live up to a label of cleverness.
Instead we use phrases like: (Give them a try!)
- You worked hard on that
- Tell me about your painting
- You sang from your heart 😍
- Did you enjoy doing …?
And sometimes just breathing slowly and smiling gently is enough to let your child feel supported and allows their intrinsic motivation to develop.
Child Health and The Importance of Reducing Chemical Exposure
The bad news: Did you know that children can contract up to 14 infections in their first year at a nursery?
The good news: While this may sound alarming, it is a natural way for children to develop a healthy and robust immune system.
At Little Land Nursery, we encourage children to explore the outdoors, get dirty, and build their immune system. To reduce the number of infections, we encourage parents to bathe their children, change their clothes, and then continue with their day.
I believe that the fewer chemicals children inhale or absorb through their skin, the more their bodies can focus on developing immunity against infections. We uphold our ethos at the nursery to ensure a safe, healthy, and chemical-free environment for our children.
To ensure reduced toxic exposure at the nursery, we proudly use (and support) ENJO’s chemical-free cleaning and skincare products. Clean means without toxic chemicals, and when we clean with ENJO fibers, all we need is water.
ENJO’s Impact on Health
Before I introduced ENJO to my nursery, I used it at home. I was fortunate to have home help, and the lady assisting me noticed improved breathing and no longer suffered from headaches. She introduced ENJO to other houses she worked in, saw the same results, and the headaches never returned.
ENJO: Enhancing Cleanliness Without Chemicals
But let me explain what ENJO is all about. ENJO stands out as a collection of products that enhance our living environments by eliminating toxic chemicals. When we clean with ENJO fibers, all we use is water.
One of the first things I noticed was a significant difference in the bathroom where I used to use a scouring cream that left a powdery residue. With ENJO, a simple wipe is all it takes to leave surfaces clean, demonstrating the effectiveness of these microfiber products.
The effort was gone, I had seen the microfiber hooks in an enlarged photograph, and I felt confident that these microscopic fibers and water were able to remove the dirt.
I love to use ENJO on my kitchen counters and chopping boards, and at the end of the day, it is so easy to run the ENJO Floor fibre over the kitchen floor and give it a quick mop—no smelly, bacteria-filled mop or bucket needed!
A Cleaner Approach with ENJO
After experiencing the positive results of ENJO firsthand, I knew that the children at the nursery would benefit from ENJO. When I discovered they were Dubai Municipality approved and HACCP Certified, it only solidified my belief.
I love that in the baby class if a child does put a toy in their mouth, at least it will not have some toxic chemical on it. And because there is no residue, the toys can be wiped over very easily to be properly cleaned.
The ENJO fibers are very hard-wearing and long-lasting. While they may seem expensive initially, I believe they are very good value for money. They are long-lasting and provide a safer, cleaner environment for both children and staff.
By integrating ENJO products into our nursery, we have taken significant steps toward creating a safer and cleaner environment for children to learn, grow, and thrive. This commitment to health and safety is central to our mission, ensuring that each child receives the best care possible.
