In this article, I share my personal experience as a teenager navigating modern skincare and the pressure created by viral products and complex routines. I reflect on why chemical free skincare felt like a better choice for my skin and how simplifying my routine made a noticeable difference in my acne, pores, and overall skin clarity.
By switching to a water only cleanse using the ENJO Daily Cleanse Face Pad, I learned that teenage skin often benefits more from moderation and consistency than from harsh ingredients or multi step routines.
This perspective encourages a more thoughtful and informed approach to skincare for teenagers.
Skincare Today Is More Than Soap and Water
As a teenager navigating the modern world of skincare, I have learned that caring for one’s skin is no longer a simple matter of soap and water.
Instead, it has become an exercise in advanced chemistry, complete with ingredients whose names appear better suited to a laboratory report than a bathroom shelf.
The Rise of Viral Skincare and Chemical Confusion
Big skincare brands assure us that these ingredients are essential and “approved by dermatologists”. Upon seeing it on social media platforms like TikTok or Instagram, consumers, especially teenagers, jump on a bandwagon to hop on the new viral skin care product.
Yet, if asked what these chemicals actually do, a good 99% of us would struggle to even pronounce the names of these chemicals.
Discovering Chemical Free Skincare Alternatives
This growing awareness has led me to take interest in chemical-free, natural skincare alternatives. I came across a skincare product which requires only water.
Enjo’s Daily Cleanse Face Pad. After 3 short months of transition, I noticed a significant difference on my skin: my skin looked brighter, my pores shrinked, and my acne faded.
Why Teenage Skin Benefits from Simplicity
Natural skincare encourages simplicity, which is something teenage skin arguably needs most. The current trend of multi-step routines implies that clear skin requires constant intervention, when in reality, moderation and consistency are often more effective.
A reduced routine with gentler ingredients, can feel both practical and respectful to the skin, rather than overwhelming.
Ultimately, my personal skincare journey has taught me to opt towards a simpler routine with no unnecessary chemicals added into cleansers, moisturizers etc. 3 months ago, I would’ve bought the next viral skincare product on TikTok.
Now, I am not entirely comfortable applying substances or chemicals which I can’t even pronounce onto my skin. We should not be expected to navigate complex chemical formulations without question.
A healthy level of skepticism is not a rejection of science; it is an invitation for clarity and responsibility.
