HALO Middle East founder Tina shares an honest reflection on why cleaning is a natural human response to stress and uncertainty. From navigating shipping disruptions in 2026 to the quiet comfort of a clean counter, this piece explores the emotional and practical reasons why simplicity and ENJO’s fibre-and-water approach, matters more than ever.
The Psychology Behind Cleaning as a Reset
There is a reason so many of us start cleaning when something feels off.
You get anxious, you get unsettled, you do not quite know what to do… so you wipe a counter, reorganise a drawer, clear a surface that was not bothering you five minutes earlier. It sounds small, but it helps.
I laughed the other day because when I first spoke to Diane after the recent conflict began, she said, “I’ve just been cleaning.” My version tends to be organising, cleaning… and if I’m honest, sometimes eating.
We all have our version of it.
And there is a reason for that. Cleaning gives you something immediate. You do something, and you see the result straight away. In a moment where so much feels outside of your control, that small sense of order is actually quite grounding.
It is not the solution to everything. It is just… helpful.
Building HALO in Uncertain Times
Diane and I started HALO Middle East in 2021, just after Covid. That was already a time where nothing felt particularly certain. And here we are again in 2026, navigating a different kind of disruption.
One of our largest shipments is currently stuck. We have no clear timeline. We are receiving messages about insurance exclusions tied to war, and additional costs for crews unable to move vessels. It is the kind of thing you read twice just to be sure you understood it correctly.
And still, we continue. We never really considered doing anything else.
Maybe that is part of the same mindset.
You focus on what you can do.
You keep moving forward.
You keep things in order where you can.
What a Clean Space Actually Does for You
At home, that often shows up in simple ways. A clean kitchen. Fresh counters. Floors that feel good under your feet. It is not about perfection. It is about how a space makes you feel.
Why Simplicity Makes Sense Right Now
There is also a practical side to all of this that has become more obvious lately.
With everything happening in the region, especially around key shipping routes, you start to think differently about what you rely on. Constantly restocking cleaning products, disposable wipes, multiple sprays. It adds up, and it depends on things being available exactly when you need them.
One of the things we appreciate about ENJO, especially now, is how simple it is.
Fibre and water. No need for a cabinet full of products. No constant repurchasing. It uses less water, and you are not relying on disposables. Over time, it is simply more economical and easier to maintain.
We did not set out thinking about it this way, but in moments like this, it makes sense.
Less dependence. Less waste. Less to think about.
The Feeling Is Still the Point
But beyond all of that, what stands out most is still the feeling.
Cleaning is one of those small, human things we all do when we need to reset. It will not fix bigger problems, and it is not meant to. But it creates a bit of calm, a bit of clarity, and sometimes that is exactly what is needed in that moment.
So yes, some people go for a run. Some meditate. Some call a friend.
And some of us clean.
